The National Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Delta State, Chris Iyovwaye, has called for a full, transparent and impartial investigation into the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Secondary Education. He made the appeal in a statement issued on Saturday.

Adeda reportedly died after an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, at the Delta State Secretariat in Asaba. He later passed away at the Asaba Specialist Hospital.

The Delta State Police Command has begun investigating the circumstances of the death. One suspect, Lucky Adoh, has been arrested, while two others, Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine, are being sought. Police are expected to examine video footage, eyewitness accounts and medical records.

Iyovwaye described the circumstances as deeply troubling and urged the police to conduct the probe without fear, favour or political interference. He also called on the state government to cooperate fully and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable.

The candidate noted that the Nigeria Labour Congress had demanded justice, which led to a temporary lockdown of the state secretariat complex. He cautioned against premature conclusions, stating that the commissioner’s denial of any involvement must be tested against the available evidence, and appealed for calm while the investigation proceeds.
