Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu provided ₦50 billion to support the upgrade of the Ibadan airport.

Makinde described the allegation as false, insisting that the airport expansion project is being financed entirely by the Oyo State Government.

The governor was reacting to comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who had claimed that the Federal Government supported the project with ₦50 billion.

Speaking at a political gathering, Makinde stated that neither he nor the state government received such funds from the Federal Government for the airport upgrade.

He maintained that the transformation of the Ladoke Akintola International Airport is being carried out solely with resources provided by the state government.

According to him, the project reflects the commitment of his administration to improving infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities within the state.

Makinde stressed that the public should disregard claims suggesting that the Federal Government financed the project, reiterating that the airport upgrade remains a state-funded initiative.

The governor’s remarks have added a new dimension to the debate sparked by Wike’s comments regarding the source of funding for the airport expansion project.

The airport upgrade is one of the major infrastructure projects currently being undertaken by the Oyo State Government as part of efforts to enhance transportation, attract investment and boost economic development.
