Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi would not be able to secure victory in the South-East during the 2027 presidential election.

Umahi attributed his position to what he described as increased political awareness among voters in the region, arguing that people now pay closer attention to policies, governance and developmental projects when making political decisions.

The minister said the South-East has witnessed significant federal government projects and interventions, which he believes have influenced political perceptions across the region.

According to him, residents are becoming more interested in evaluating leaders based on performance and tangible results rather than emotional or sentimental considerations.

Umahi maintained that ongoing infrastructure projects and other government initiatives in the South-East would play a major role in shaping voter decisions ahead of the next general election.

He also expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would receive substantial support from the region in 2027, citing the administration’s investments in roads and other critical infrastructure.

The minister urged political leaders to focus on issues that promote national development and unity while encouraging citizens to assess candidates based on their records and policy proposals.

His comments come amid growing political activity and realignments as parties and politicians continue preparations for the 2027 elections.

The remarks have added to the ongoing debate over the political landscape in the South-East and the level of support various parties and candidates may attract in the next election cycle.
