The Edo State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Olumide Akpata, has dismissed reports suggesting that King’s College, Lagos, has been sold to the King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOB).

Akpata clarified that the institution remains under government ownership and that KCOB has not purchased the school.

He made the clarification amid concerns surrounding claims that the historic institution had been transferred to its old students’ association.

According to Akpata, the issue involves discussions concerning the management and development of the school rather than an outright sale of the institution.

He explained that any arrangement involving private stakeholders should not be misconstrued as a transfer of ownership.

Akpata stressed the importance of protecting the heritage and public character of King’s College while exploring ways to improve its facilities and educational standards.

He also urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that KCOB had acquired the school, describing such reports as inaccurate.

The clarification comes amid broader discussions about the involvement of alumni organisations and other stakeholders in the management and development of public educational institutions.
