Ghana Makes Online Health Form Compulsory For All Arriving Passengers

All travellers arriving in Ghana will be required to complete a mandatory health declaration form from Thursday, November 12, 2026, the country Health Service has announced.

The Ghana Health Service said all passengers travelling to the country must complete and submit the online form before embarking on their journeys. The directive applies to all passengers travelling to Ghana, including Ghanaian citizens and foreign visitors.

The directive was contained in a press release dated November 7 and signed by the Director General of the GHS, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea. The service said the requirement followed a recent announcement by the country Minister of Health. In line with this directive, all passengers travelling to Ghana will be required to complete the Health Declaration Form before embarking on their journey to Ghana, the statement said.

Travellers are required to complete the form through the GHS electronic health declaration portal before departure.

The portal is available at http://ehds.ghs.gov.gh/declaration. Upon successful submission, passengers will receive a QR code, which they must present to Port Health officials when they arrive in Ghana. A parent or guardian is expected to file the form for a child younger than 12.

The declaration form requires passengers to provide relevant personal information, travel history, health screening details and accommodation information in Ghana. The questions cover recent travel, symptoms and contacts, and the answers go to Port Health. Port Health may make contact at any point in the 21 days after arrival. The form warns that a false answer, or a refusal to obey a Port Health instruction, can bring action under the Public Health Act, 2012 Act 851.

The service said the measure was intended to strengthen Ghana public health surveillance and preparedness systems, enhance the monitoring of potential public health risks, and safeguard the health and well being of residents and visitors. Airlines and travel agencies have been urged to inform passengers about the new requirement to avoid delays and denial of boarding. The service said the declaration should sharpen disease surveillance and readiness.

The announcement comes amid the spread of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola across parts of Africa, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya and Nigeria. Although the Ghana Health Service did not specifically link its November 7 announcement to the Ebola outbreak, Ghana had earlier introduced enhanced health screening at its international airports.

Ghana has not recorded any confirmed case of Ebola, and the ministry has described the steps as precautionary.

On November 3, 2026, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh announced enhanced Ebola screening for passengers arriving at Ghana international airports in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. Under those measures, travellers must declare on the form any travel to or through Ebola affected countries in the previous 21 days.

The ministry said the measures will be reviewed as the outbreak develops, and urged travellers to comply fully to protect public health.
