The Bayelsa State Police Command has presented financial assistance totalling ₦2.48 million to families of police officers who lost their lives in service as well as personnel who sustained injuries while carrying out their duties.

The presentation was made by the Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police as part of the force’s welfare support programme for officers and their dependants.

The beneficiaries included relatives of fallen officers and personnel who suffered injuries during various operations and assignments.

Speaking during the presentation, the police commissioner said the initiative reflected the commitment of the police leadership to the welfare of its personnel and their families.

He noted that while the financial assistance could not replace the lives lost or fully compensate for the sacrifices made by injured officers, it was intended to provide support and demonstrate that the force values their service.

The commissioner also encouraged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds to improve their welfare and support the needs of their families.

Representatives of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the police authorities for the gesture, describing it as a source of relief and encouragement.

The disbursement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to provide welfare support to officers and families affected by injuries or deaths sustained in the line of duty.
