Troops Foil Terrorist Attack, Rescue Two Kidnap Victims, Arrest Drug Peddler in Kaduna, Sokoto

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State, rescued two kidnapped victims and arrested a suspected illicit drug peddler in Kaduna State.

The operations, conducted separately on September 12 and 13, 2026, also led to the recovery of 157 rounds of PKT ammunition and phone batteries from the terrorists.

In Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a suspected drug peddler, identified as Yohana Musa, during a stop-and-search operation along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road on September 12.

Musa was reportedly found in possession of a large quantity of illicit drugs and other substances while travelling to Birnin Gwari.

The suspect and the recovered items have been taken into military custody for further investigation.

In Sokoto State, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call following a terrorist attack at Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area on September 13.

The troops engaged the terrorists with firepower, forcing them to retreat and rescuing two kidnapped victims during the operation.

Following intelligence that the terrorists were attempting to regroup, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged them in another gun battle, compelling the assailants to withdraw.

During an exploitation of the area, the troops recovered 157 rounds of PKT ammunition, phone batteries and other items.

The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, while reaffirming the military’s resolve to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.

The public was also urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
