At least nine passengers were killed after gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus at Dungus Junction in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred around 9:40 p.m. when the bus driver stopped at the junction to allow some passengers to alight while the vehicle was heading to Jos.

Residents who spoke to journalists said the bus was left riddled with bullets and stained with blood following the attack.

Lawan Suleiman, a teacher and neighbour of one of the victims, confirmed the incident, saying the bus driver, identified as Ibrahim, was among those involved in the incident.

He said three of the victims were from Bukuru community and that their bodies had been deposited at a hospital, while relatives were making arrangements for their burial.

The spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, also confirmed the attack, describing the victims as passengers travelling to Jos when the attackers opened fire on the vehicle.

Tengwong said one of those killed was a member of Operation Rainbow, while several other passengers sustained gunshot injuries.

He added that some of the injured victims were taken to hospitals for treatment, but some later died from their injuries.

The Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
