AC Milan are preparing to open contract talks with Samuel Chukwueze after a bright start to the season convinced the club it is time to secure the Nigerian winger’s long term future at the San Siro.

Chukwueze has started in each of Milan’s first three matches of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign, contributing two assists in that span. He set up Adrien Rabiot’s goal in a 2 to 1 away win over Torino in August, then created another for Alphadjo Cisse during a 1 to 1 draw with Juventus in early September. He has since retained his place in the side for Milan’s away fixture against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

His performances have come in an unfamiliar role on the right side of a back three under head coach Ruben Amorim, a switch that has drawn praise from the Italian club’s technical staff.

His current contract at Milan runs until June 2028, but according to transfer journalist Nicolo Schira, the Rossoneri are now ready to sit down with the twenty seven year old and his representatives to discuss extending those terms, with some reports suggesting the club could look to tie him down as far out as 2031.

Handing him fresh terms while he still has time left on his existing deal would allow Milan to protect the player’s resale value and reward what has been a career defining turnaround in his fortunes at the club.

Chukwueze joined Milan from Spanish side Villarreal in the middle of 2023 in a deal reported to be worth around 28 million euros, but he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in his first two seasons in Italy. That led to a loan spell in the Premier League with Fulham last season, where he made 23 appearances and scored three goals. He returned to Milan ahead of the current campaign and appears to have used that experience to force his way back into the club’s plans.

For Nigeria, the news will be welcomed as further evidence that one of the Super Eagles’ most dependable attacking talents is finally settling into consistent club football, a development that should strengthen his standing heading into the country’s upcoming international assignments.
