INEC Name Omission Made NDC More Popular In Kano, Says Gwarzo Aide

The spokesperson to the Kano State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC has said the controversy surrounding the omission and subsequent restoration of his principal name by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has significantly made the party more popular among voters in the state.

Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, who serves as the media aide to the NDC governorship candidate Aminu Gwarzo, disclosed that the development has boosted the support base and general acceptance of the NDC ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kano.

He made this known on Friday while reacting to the decision by INEC to restore Gwarzo name to its list of candidates.

Shuaibu explained that the party was not worried or alarmed when the name was initially omitted from the INEC list, because it was absolutely certain that all electoral requirements and guidelines stipulated by the commission had been fully met and complied with.

He further explained that the party complied strictly with all the laid down procedures, starting from authentic party membership to proper nomination process and timely submission of candidate details at the INEC portal, and was therefore confident that INEC would eventually correct the administrative error.

According to him, members and supporters of the party across Kano State saw the omission as nothing but a temporary setback that would be resolved through due process, and were not surprised when the commission eventually reversed itself and restored the name.

He said, We were not frightened because we followed all the laid down procedures from party membership to the nomination process and submission of our candidate details. We knew we did the right thing.

He added that the widespread attention and public discourse generated by the controversy has increased public interest in the NDC and its candidate, noting that the increased visibility has translated into wider support, sympathy and growing popularity for the party across all local government areas in Kano State ahead of the forthcoming polls.
