JRB Commends Delta, Ondo States Over Progress in Tax Harmonisation

The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has applauded the governments of Delta and Ondo States for advancing efforts to harmonise their tax systems, describing the developments as important steps towards implementing Nigeria’s tax reforms.

The board congratulated Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, following his signing of the Delta State Tax Harmonisation Bill into law.

It also praised the Ondo State House of Assembly for passing the Ondo State Harmonised Tax Bill, noting that the legislative action would strengthen the state’s tax administration framework.

In a statement released on Thursday by its Communication and Stakeholder Liaison Department, the JRB said the two developments reflected growing commitment to streamlining taxation and eliminating inconsistencies in tax administration across subnational governments.

The board noted that harmonising taxes and levies would promote transparency, reduce multiple taxation, encourage voluntary compliance and create a more favourable environment for businesses.

It added that a simplified and efficient tax administration structure was essential to improving revenue collection and establishing a sustainable revenue system across the country.

The JRB reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among governments in building a coordinated, equitable and efficient tax framework that serves both businesses and citizens.Tinubu Prays for Nigeria’s Peace, Unity and Stability During Umrah in Saudi Arabia

President Bola Tinubu has offered prayers for peace, national unity and stability in Nigeria during his performance of the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah, in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The President disclosed this on Friday during an interview with journalists after completing the religious exercise at the Grand Mosque. The interview was subsequently shared online by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Speaking on the significance of the pilgrimage, particularly his return to Saudi Arabia after a similar visit before the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu described the experience as spiritually fulfilling for himself and the country.

He said the exercise was motivated by his faith, his commitment to public service and his belief in the goodwill of Nigerians.

The President also expressed his desire for Nigerians to coexist peacefully, with greater harmony and happiness through their faith in God.

In a separate statement issued on Friday, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Tinubu performed Umrah early in the morning at Masjid al-Haram.

According to Onanuga, the President offered prayers of thanksgiving to Allah while seeking divine direction and protection for Nigeria.

He also sought lasting peace, national cohesion and stability, as well as divine intervention in addressing insecurity and other challenges confronting the country.

The statement added that Tinubu prayed for sustained economic growth and social development, expressing hope for a more prosperous Nigeria.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Tinubu travelled to Saudi Arabia for the spiritual exercise, with the Presidency stating that his visit was centred on seeking God’s intervention in the affairs and well-being of Nigeria.
