Senate President Akpabio Demands DSS Investigation Over Controversial Northern Remarks
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has formally requested the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate alleged comments perceived as hostile to Northern Nigeria.
The petition follows the circulation of statements that have sparked reactions among political stakeholders and members of the public, with concerns raised about their potential impact on national unity.
Akpabio argued that remarks capable of deepening regional divisions should be carefully examined by relevant authorities to prevent tensions and promote peaceful coexistence across the country.
According to reports, the Senate President stressed the need for responsible public discourse, especially as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gain momentum.
He maintained that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division and urged political actors to avoid statements that could inflame ethnic or regional sentiments.
The petition has generated discussions within political circles, with supporters calling for a thorough review of the matter while others emphasize the importance of balancing security concerns with freedom of expression.
The DSS is expected to review the petition and determine the appropriate steps regarding the allegations raised.
