US President Donald Trump’s Qatari-gifted Air Force One was delayed on the tarmac on Wednesday after an emergency inflatable slide accidentally deployed.

The incident raised fresh questions about the safety of the jet.

Trump was preparing to travel to a Republican Party convention in Dallas from Joint Base Andrews when the delay occurred. He had to wait in his helicopter before boarding the plane while inspectors checked the slide.

The president told reporters on the tarmac that the check would take about 15 minutes. A person briefed on the situation later said military personnel had accidentally triggered the emergency slide used for evacuations.

The plane eventually took off and landed in Texas, where Trump was scheduled to speak at the convention ahead of the November midterm elections. The White House said the slide was checked to ensure everything was working properly.

The Qatari-donated Boeing 747 has previously faced security concerns, including a dramatic switch of aircraft in Turkey earlier this year. Trump has said further security enhancements on the jet are planned to begin in October.
