Victor Osimhen is targeting Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon next week after leaving Friday’s 3-2 Super Lig win over Istanbul Başakşehir with a groin injury.

The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring in the 16th minute from Lucas Torreira’s pass, then was substituted in the 33rd minute. Barış Alper Yılmaz replaced him. Galatasaray later led again through Torreira, conceded an own goal from Davinson Sánchez and won it with Gabriel Sara’s 90th-minute free-kick.

Osimhen said he came off to avoid taking a risk. “I have nothing,” he said. “If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the field.”

Galatasaray said examinations found strain and pain in his right adductor muscle group and that treatment began immediately. An MRI and further tests on Osimhen and teammate Mario Lemina were scheduled to be completed on Sunday.

The Nigerian has five league goals this season and remains central to Galatasaray’s attack. Availability for Sporting will depend on the scan and on how he trains this week, not only on his public optimism.

A short turnaround after a first-half withdrawal leaves little room if the adductor is still sore.
