The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on residents of Benue, Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and other parts of the country to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing the Federal Government’s ongoing investment in roads and other infrastructure.

Umahi made the call during an inspection of the Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja Trans-Saharan Highway at the weekend.

The minister said continued support for Tinubu was necessary to ensure the completion of the highway and other infrastructure projects being undertaken by the administration.

According to him, Tinubu has demonstrated the political will and commitment required to address long-standing infrastructure challenges across the country, particularly in communities that have suffered from poor road connectivity.

Umahi argued that the highway would improve movement across the affected states and enable farmers and businesses to transport agricultural produce, vehicles and machinery more easily.

He said the Federal Government could not complete all ongoing projects simultaneously because of limited resources, but assured that work would continue according to available funding.

The minister projected that several of the projects would be completed by 2031 if Tinubu secures a second term in office in 2027.

“By the end of 2031, which will be the end of President Bola Tinubu’s second tenure if he is re-elected, these projects and roads would have been fully completed,” Umahi said.

He commended Tinubu for approving funding and mobilisation for the Trans-Saharan Highway despite the financial constraints facing the government and the large number of infrastructure projects under execution.

Umahi said the President had directed the Ministry of Works to work with state governments and other relevant authorities to tackle infrastructure challenges affecting communities.

He described Tinubu’s intervention in some underserved communities as significant, particularly in parts of Benue where, according to him, some communities lack federal roads connecting them to other areas.

“I think the President is a miracle to these communities because without this intervention, many of them would not have been able to move their agricultural produce, vehicles and machinery,” he said.

Umahi also cited other road projects and interventions undertaken by the administration, including projects around Ibadan, Ijebu-Ode and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

He urged residents to recognise the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments and support the administration’s efforts to address the country’s road and transportation challenges.

The minister said the completion of the projects would depend partly on sustained government commitment and the availability of resources.
