Phyna Marks Sister’s Death Anniversary, Says She Could Not Get Justice
Big Brother Naija winner, Phyna has marked one year since the death of her sister, Ruth Otabor, with a tribute that mixed love, unfinished grief and anger at how the case ended.
Ruth died on 31 August 2025 in a truck incident. On Monday Phyna wrote that a year had passed and she still missed her sister in ways she could not explain. Life had moved on around her, she said, but part of her felt as if it stopped the day Ruth left.
The anniversary was not only a memorial. Phyna again accused the Dangote Group of failing to look back after the crash and said an underage driver she holds responsible still walks free. She described the case as having been swept under the carpet.
Those are her allegations. Public reporting has not shown a completed prosecution that satisfied the family.
That gap is what sits under her closing line: “I’m sorry I could not get you justice.” She has said before that she will not forgive herself for how the matter turned out, and that a false story about her made the family’s pain easier for others to dismiss.
She ended by calling Ruth deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten. The post has brought the accident back into view, along with a harder question that outlasts celebrity grief: what happens when a traffic death becomes a private wound and a public argument, and the people left behind still feel that no one was held to account.
