Falconets Beat World Cup Host, Poland 1-0 in Warm-Up
Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, beat tournament hosts Poland 1-0 in a friendly at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg on Friday.
Mary Mamudu scored the only goal in first-half stoppage time, giving Coach Moses Aduku’s side a 1-0 lead at the interval. Nigeria held on after the break to secure the win in their first of two planned warm-up matches in Poland.
The result offers a boost ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which Poland will host from early September. The Falconets, two-time runners-up at the competition, next face the Republic of Korea on Tuesday, 1 September.
Nigeria will open their Group F campaign against Spain on 7 September, before matches against China PR and New Caledonia.
The win over the hosts gives Aduku’s squad an early test against local conditions as they complete their final preparations.
