The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has explained why he believes Peter Obi could defeat President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election.

Amadi made the prediction during an interview, arguing that the current political landscape does not guarantee victory for either Tinubu or Atiku.

He said Obi’s growing popularity, particularly among young Nigerians, could give the former Anambra State governor a significant advantage in the election.

According to Amadi, there is an increasing desire among Nigerians for a different style of political leadership, with many young people seeking an alternative to the established political order.

He also pointed to Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election as evidence of his electoral strength.

Amadi argued that Obi had significant support across several parts of the country during the 2023 election and claimed that the former governor would have emerged victorious if the election had been completely free, fair and credible.

He said the widespread political activism associated with the 2020 EndSARS protests also contributed to Obi’s emergence as a major political figure among younger Nigerians.

Amadi maintained that Obi’s appeal extends beyond his previous political party and has continued to grow among voters looking for a new direction for the country.

He argued that the political calculations ahead of 2027 could be different from those of the 2023 election, making the contest more difficult to predict.

The political analyst therefore believes Obi has a realistic opportunity to defeat both Tinubu and Atiku if he successfully consolidates his support base and attracts voters across different regions.

He added that the outcome of the 2027 election would depend largely on voter mobilisation, political alliances and the ability of candidates to connect with Nigerians facing economic and social challenges.
