Peter Obi Eulogises Dolly Parton for Her Compassion Beyond Music

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has paid tribute to the late American country music icon, Dolly Parton, saying her greatness extended far beyond her musical achievements.

In a post on his X handle on Wednesday, following Parton’s death at the age of 80, Obi described her enduring legacy as rooted not only in her fame, records, awards and wealth, but in the person she remained despite her success.

He noted that Parton came from poverty in rural Tennessee, raised in a large family that had little materially but was rich in love, faith, resilience and strong family values. Obi said she never forgot those humble beginnings.

“I admire Dolly Parton not simply because she became a great musician, but because success never made her forget where she came from,” he wrote. He referenced her song “Coat of Many Colors” as an example of how she turned her early experiences into music that comforted and inspired millions.

Obi described her compassion as her greatest legacy, calling it “the sound of a good heart that never forgot its roots.” He concluded by praying that God grant her soul eternal rest.
