American singer, Beyoncé has joined musicians and other prominent figures in mourning country music legend Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday at the age of 80.

Beyoncé described Parton as an exceptional artist and role model whose influence extended far beyond country music, praising her creativity, generosity, humour and entrepreneurial spirit.

In a tribute published on her official website, Beyoncé said she was grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Parton and would forever cherish their collaboration.

The two music stars worked together on Beyoncé’s 2024 country-inspired album, Cowboy Carter. Parton featured on the interlude Dolly P and contributed to Tyrant, while Beyoncé recorded a reimagined version of Parton’s classic song, Jolene, for the album.

Parton had previously praised Beyoncé’s rendition of the song, which introduced the country classic to a new generation of listeners.

Other leading figures in the music and entertainment industries have also paid tribute to the late singer-songwriter.

Pop star, Taylor Swift described Parton’s death as difficult to comprehend, while highlighting the enduring impact of her music and the countless people she influenced throughout her career.

Swift praised Parton for encouraging people to remain true to themselves and for combining compassion with strength, particularly in defending her identity and work as an artist.

British singer, Sir Elton John also mourned Parton, describing her as a unique and irreplaceable artist with a kind heart. He said he was shocked and devastated by her death.

Sir Paul McCartney, who worked with Parton on a cover of Let It Be for her Rockstar album, also expressed sadness over her passing.

McCartney praised her songwriting, singing and philanthropy, saying her contribution to country music and the wider world would be difficult to replace.

Media personality Oprah Winfrey similarly paid tribute to Parton, saying the singer brought light to the world and left it better through her life and work.

The tributes reflect Parton’s far-reaching influence across music and popular culture, with artists from different generations acknowledging her talent, individuality, philanthropy and ability to transcend the boundaries of country music.

Parton’s death has also attracted a national response in the United States. President Donald Trump ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff across the country for one week in honour of the late music icon.
