Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes has been named the 2026 PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

 The Portuguese midfielder received the award after an outstanding 2025-26 season in which he set a new Premier League record for assists.

Fernandes provided 21 assists and scored nine goals in 35 league appearances, helping United finish third and secure a return to the Champions League.

 His assist tally surpassed the previous joint record held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

The 31-year-old is the first Manchester United player to win the prestigious award since Wayne Rooney in 2010. He also becomes only the second Portuguese winner after Cristiano Ronaldo, who claimed it in consecutive seasons in 2007 and 2008.

Fernandes beat a strong shortlist that included Erling Haaland, Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhães, David Raya and Rayan Cherki. The award, voted for by fellow professionals, adds to the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year honour he received earlier this year.

Despite United finishing the campaign without a major trophy, Fernandes’ consistency and creativity earned widespread recognition from his peers across the game.
