Veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after a prolonged battle with cancer.

His death was confirmed on Sunday by several sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, who announced the news on social media.

Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, also appeared distraught during an Instagram Live session on Sunday, where she expressed shock and disbelief over her father’s death.

Fellow actor and filmmaker, Saheed Balogun paid tribute to the late actor in an Instagram post, describing his death as painful and praying for his eternal repose.

The development came only days after Ogogo’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, publicly appealed for medical assistance for their father, who was receiving treatment for stage-four cancer.

On August 17, the sisters disclosed that doctors had advised the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of the severity of his condition.

The family subsequently explored other treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies.

Ogogo was one of the notable figures in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades. He was widely recognised for his roles and contributions to the growth of Nigerian cinema, particularly Yoruba-language productions.

His death has since triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and other members of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
