Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda has flagged off the distribution of 90,000 bags of assorted grains to vulnerable households across the state’s 34 local government areas. The exercise is part of efforts to ease the impact of economic hardship and strengthen food security.
The ceremony took place in Kaita Local Government Area on Wednesday. The governor directed officials and stakeholders to ensure the grains reach the intended beneficiaries without discrimination or diversion.
Radda said the intervention would provide immediate relief to vulnerable families while supporting the administration’s longer-term investments in agriculture. He recalled earlier support for women in business during Ramadan and assistance given to 7,220 widows across the state.
The governor stressed that palliatives alone cannot permanently solve food insecurity. He said the government is combining short-term relief with measures to boost production, including subsidised fertiliser, expanded irrigation and other support for farmers.
He directed local government officials, traditional and religious leaders, and community committees to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution. The State Coordinator of the Community Development Programme said the structures would prioritise widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities and low-income families.
