500 Nigerians Offer to Help Treat Ogogo’s Cancer, Says Jide Kosoko

Veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko has given an update on the health condition of his colleague, Taiwo Babatunde Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, revealing that the ailing actor’s family and colleagues have been overwhelmed by offers of help from members of the public.

Speaking alongside fellow veteran actor Yinka Quadri, Kosoko disclosed that more than 500 people have reached out claiming to have medical, spiritual or traditional remedies that could aid Ogogo’s recovery from stage four cancer.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, August 19, Kosoko expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of concern from fans, colleagues and well-wishers across the globe since news of Ogogo’s diagnosis became public.

He explained that the sheer volume of offers, ranging from over three hundred to more than five hundred individuals, has created a genuine logistical dilemma for those caring for the actor, as each person sincerely believes their intervention could help him.

Kosoko clarified that moving Ogogo from the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment to the various locations suggested by well-wishers has become extremely difficult given the advanced stage of his condition. He stressed that the family’s inability to take Ogogo to every person who has offered assistance should not be mistaken for doubt about their sincerity or goodwill, adding that the concern shown by people both in Nigeria and abroad has deeply touched the family.

The wave of support follows an emotional appeal made on Monday, August 17, by Ogogo’s daughters, Shakira and Haleemah Hassan, who shared a tearful video disclosing their father’s stage four cancer diagnosis and appealing to Nigerians for help after the hospital reportedly declined further treatment. That appeal quickly drew attention from across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with actors including Femi Adebayo and Toyin Abraham joining efforts to mobilise support for the veteran actor.

Kosoko urged the public to continue praying for Ogogo rather than seeking to move him, expressing confidence that with continued prayers and divine mercy, the 66 year old actor would pull through. He thanked everyone who had reached out and asked well-wishers to keep supporting the family from wherever they are as Ogogo continues to receive care.
