Atiku, Makinde Missing as Parties, Presidential Candidates Sign Peace Accord

Several presidential candidates and political parties have signed a peace pact ahead of the forthcoming elections, pledging to promote peaceful campaigns and uphold democratic principles throughout the electoral process.

However, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde were notably absent from the signing ceremony.

Their absence has drawn attention amid growing political activities and preparations by various parties ahead of the elections.

The peace pact is aimed at encouraging political parties and their candidates to conduct their campaigns peacefully, respect the rules of the electoral process and avoid actions capable of creating tension or violence before, during and after the elections.

Representatives of participating parties and presidential candidates used the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful political engagement and the credibility of the electoral process.

The agreement also underscores the importance of accepting electoral outcomes in accordance with the law and seeking redress through established legal channels where disputes arise.

With political activities expected to intensify in the coming months, stakeholders have continued to call on candidates, supporters and political parties to prioritise peace and national unity.

The absence of some prominent political figures from the pact signing, however, is likely to remain a subject of discussion as the country moves closer to the elections.
