INEC Schedules Sept 19 for Five Legislative Bye-Elections, Reinstates Four State Constituencies in Delta and Kogi
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 19 for the conduct of five legislative bye-elections across affected federal and state constituencies nationwide.
In addition to announcing the election date, the commission formally approved the restoration of four state constituencies located in Delta and Kogi states, resolving long-standing boundary and legal representation matters.
According to an official statement released by the electoral umpire, the upcoming bye-elections became necessary following vacancies created by the deaths and resignations of previous lawmakers occupying the respective legislative seats.
INEC outlined that the official timetable and schedule of activities will guide political parties in conducting their internal primaries and submitting candidate nomination forms within the stipulated legal timelines.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to deploying appropriate technology, including voter accreditation tools, while ensuring full compliance with the Electoral Act to deliver transparent, peaceful, and credible polls across all affected electoral districts.
