Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace, have foiled an attack on Nyerwai and Rayidi communities in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State. One person was killed during the incident.

Military sources said the attack occurred at about 11:05 p.m. on August 12, 2026. Troops stationed at Dorowa Babuje responded to reports of sporadic shootings in the two communities.

On arrival, the soldiers found the body of a 37-year-old man identified as Danya Nuhu. They also rescued 28-year-old Abednego Davou, who had sustained gunshot wounds, along with three cattle that were injured in the attack.

Preliminary findings indicated that the attackers fled into the surrounding area after sighting the advancing troops. The injured victim was taken to the General Hospital in Barkin Ladi for treatment, while efforts continue to track the fleeing suspects.

The military has intensified patrols across the Operation Enduring Peace joint operations area, focusing on vulnerable communities, schools, places of worship and other critical infrastructure to prevent further attacks and maintain security.
