The Niger State Police Command has arrested 147 suspects in separate operations targeting criminal hideouts and alleged thuggery across the state. The raids formed part of efforts to curb criminal activities and maintain security.

According to a crime bulletin by police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, 139 of the suspects were arrested during operations in Suleja and surrounding areas. The action followed reports of an unlawful assembly and violent rally in which some individuals were allegedly seen with dangerous weapons and accused of attacking and robbing members of the public.

Commissioner of Police, Adam Elleman deployed a specialised unit that conducted sting operations at several blackspots, including Madalla, Kwata, Bakin-Ruwa, Dikko and Sabon-Wuse. Of those arrested, 64 were found with suspected cannabis, knives, cutlasses and other weapons. They have been arraigned and remanded in a correctional centre.

In a separate operation in Minna, police arrested eight more suspects during raids on suspected thug hideouts in the Tunga, Sauka-Kahuta and Maitumbi areas. Items recovered included cutlasses, clubs, daggers, lighters and suspected cannabis.

The command said investigations are ongoing and the remaining suspects will be charged to court once inquiries are completed. Officials described the operations as part of continuous efforts to tackle crime across Niger State.
