Property worth about N80 million was destroyed when fire gutted two residential flats at Yalenguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel in Gombe State.

The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

The command received a distress call at 3:03 p.m. and quickly mobilised a multipurpose water tender from the ATM Fire Station. Firefighters arrived at the scene by 3:15 p.m. and found the blaze had already affected two separate residential flats with several rooms.

The crew immediately began firefighting operations and eventually put out the fire using a medium jet from the water tender. Officials said their prompt response prevented the flames from spreading further and helped save property estimated at N150 million.

No casualty was recorded in the incident. The operation was supported by personnel of the Gombe State Fire Service and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Gona Division. After confirming there was no further threat, the team returned to the station around 5:38 p.m.

The fire service urged residents to remain vigilant and observe basic fire safety measures in residential buildings. It also advised members of the public to report fire emergencies promptly to the nearest station so responders can act quickly and minimise losses.
