The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, has intercepted contraband goods valued at N3.57 billion, including thousands of parcels of cannabis and bags of foreign rice. The seizures were recorded between June 24 and August 13, 2026.

Acting Customs Area Controller Oladapo Afeni announced the haul while parading the items at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko. The seized goods included 6,035 parcels of cannabis, 2,339 bags of foreign parboiled rice, fuel, fertiliser, second-hand clothing, cosmetics and other prohibited items.

Afeni said the command has stepped up operations through intelligence, technology and stronger enforcement. He warned that smuggling foreign rice undermines local farmers and investors who have put significant resources into boosting domestic food production.

On the cannabis seizures, the controller said the drugs pose a serious threat to young people and communities. He disclosed that the command has handed over more than 32,000 parcels of hard drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency so far this year.

Afeni cautioned smugglers against using Ogun border routes for illicit trade, saying the command would continue to seize goods, impound vehicles and prosecute offenders. He also urged residents of border communities to report suspicious activities and support locally produced goods.
