Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, will headline the 2026 edition of Detty December Fest, scheduled to hold in Lagos from December 18 to 30.

The 13-day festival, organised by entertainment company Livespot360, will feature a broader programme of music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment, with organisers introducing a second stage for this year’s edition.

Wizkid is billed to perform on the main Festival Stage, while the newly created Pulse Stage will showcase emerging artistes and provide opportunities for new and rising talents across Africa.

Livespot360 co-founder and Chief Creative Officer, Darey Art Alade, said the additional stage was introduced in response to the growing international profile of African music.

He said the Pulse Stage would allow upcoming artistes to share the festival platform with established stars, describing the initiative as an important step towards developing Africa’s music ecosystem.

Other major artistes scheduled to headline the festival are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

The 2026 edition follows the inaugural Detty December Fest held last year, which attracted thousands of attendees and featured performances from several Nigerian and international artistes, including Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Wande Coal and Wizkid.

Wizkid’s return to the festival comes as he continues preparations for his seventh studio album. The singer released Real, Vol. 1, a joint EP with Asake, in January and has since appeared on collaborations with Vybz Kartel, Odeal and Jorja Smith.

He also featured alongside Tyla on “Dynamite” and Ayra Starr on “Gimme Dat,” with the latter receiving a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The singer’s appearance will also mark his return to the Detty December stage following his 2025 tour in support of his 2024 album, Morayo, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart.

The expansion of the festival comes amid increasing international interest in Lagos’ Detty December celebrations, which have become a major attraction for tourists and Nigerians in the diaspora during the festive season.

A report by the MO Africa Company estimated that Detty December activities generated about N396.5 billion in consumer spending across Lagos.

The Federal Executive Council also established a presidential task force on Detty December ahead of the 2025 festivities to coordinate government agencies and support tourism during the period.

Organisers said this year’s festival would offer a wider range of entertainment and cultural experiences as Lagos prepares to host another major Detty December celebration.
