Troops of Sector 3, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have intercepted 55 cows found destroying crops and arrested a 13-year-old herder in separate incidents within the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources disclosed that personnel responded to a distress call reporting livestock destroying cultivated plots belonging to a local farmer, Mr. Yusuf John, at Miango community. Upon reaching the scene, troops discovered 55 cattle actively grazing on the crops, while the accompanying herder fled into the surrounding bush on sighting the security team.
The livestock were immediately impounded and relocated to a safe position.
In a related development at Jebbu Miango, troops responded to another report regarding the destruction of crops on a farmland owned by Mr. John Isaiah. During the operation, security forces apprehended a 13-year-old herder, identified as Ibrahim, in connection with the incident.
The minor was taken into custody for investigation as security agencies work to establish responsibility and prevent escalating tensions between local farmers and herders in the area.
