A fatal assault by suspected bandits on the outskirts of Wasagu town in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State has left one person dead and four others abducted.

The violence, which unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, was revealed by North-West conflict reporter through a post published on Thursday

This fresh assault comes amidst heightened anxiety over persistent insecurity across portions of Kebbi State, even as military and security forces sustain anti-banditry operations.

According to the post, the victims were ambushed on their farmlands approximately one kilometer away from the main settlement.

Information indicates that the recent raid has deepened anxiety among local inhabitants, many of whom express dread that recurring raids are severely crippling agricultural activities throughout the district.

The security reporter further cited local community sources who disclosed that close to 50 residents from Wasagu and adjacent villages are currently held in captivity by bandits a reality he described as a grave danger to agricultural yields and national food sustainability.

“This is not just a security crisis; it is a growing threat to Nigeria’s food security. Wasagu is an important farming area, and when farmers are too afraid to go to their fields, food production suffers, livelihoods collapse and the effects are eventually felt across the country,” Bakatsine emphasized.

He further noted that “a nation cannot achieve food security while its farmers are fleeing for their lives,” while raising questions over how many additional agricultural settlements must suffer raids before decisive measures are taken.

As at time of filing this report, law enforcement and security authorities had not issued an official declaration regarding the incident, and the location of the kidnapped victims remains unknown.
