The Benue State Government has officially launched a comprehensive five-year strategic food security plan designed to boost agricultural production, modernize farming practices, and secure food self-sufficiency across the state.

Unveiled by the state executive leadership in Makurdi, the strategic roadmap outlines targeted interventions aimed at reversing post-harvest losses, enhancing crop yields, and strengthening value chains for key staples such as yam, cassava, maize, and rice.

The government highlighted that the initiative will leverage public-private partnerships to grant rural farmers improved access to high-yield seed varieties, modern machinery, subsidized fertilizers, and low-interest agricultural financing.

To safeguard farming communities and guarantee uninterrupted agricultural operations, the state plan incorporates specialized security arrangements to protect remote farmland and agricultural corridors from persistent security disruptions.

The comprehensive plan also prioritizes the expansion of processing hubs, cold storage facilities, and rural access roads, ensuring local agricultural produce can easily reach both national and international markets.
