FG, Jigawa Govt Deliver Relief Materials To 610 Flood Victims
One year after floods displaced hundreds of families across Jigawa, the Federal Government in conjunction with the Jigawa State Government has distributed relief materials to 610 victims to mitigate the disaster’s impact.
The distribution, which coincided with the end of the 2026 rainy season, marks a second round of intervention after the initial emergency response by the state government through the State Emergency Management Agency.
Flagging off the distribution virtually on Saturday at the Warwade camp for internally displaced persons in Dutse, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving additional assistance through the National Emergency Management Agency.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Hannafi Yakubu, said the exercise targeted about 610 verified victims drawn from the most affected communities, noting that victims omitted in the first exercise were recaptured in this phase.
He said the relief package included 500 bags of 25kg rice, 250 cartons of spaghetti, cartons of vegetable oil, mattresses, blankets, nylon mats, pumping machines, grinding and sewing machines, and cargo tricycles, as officials from NEMA, SEMA, EFCC, ICPC, Red Cross, DSS, Police and NSCDC jointly supervised the distribution.
Sankara recalled that the state government had earlier distributed over 11,000 bags of rice, beans and maize, cash assistance and agricultural inputs including improved seeds to help affected farmers resume cultivation and strengthen food security, while describing the latest intervention as part of the Federal Government’s Special Intervention on Post-2025 Flood Disaster Relief Assistance to States aimed at supporting recovery of vulnerable households.
