Nigerian highlife star, Flavour has given fans a rare and deeply personal look into a difficult chapter of his life, revealing that he battled a two year struggle with addiction that began in his 20s and eventually pushed him to seek spiritual guidance.

The singer, whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, made the disclosure during a candid TikTok Live session with fans and friends, where he reflected on his early experiences and the emotional toll they took on him.

According to Flavour, the struggle traced back to a relationship in his early twenties that ended abruptly when he lost contact with the young woman involved. With no reliable way to reach her at the time, he said the disappointment left a lasting effect on him and eventually led him down a path he came to regret.

He explained that a friend introduced him to certain habits that spiralled into what he described as an addiction lasting roughly two years.

Flavour said the period remains one of the lowest points of his life, admitting that shame eventually became overwhelming enough that he felt he had to talk to someone about it. Unable to confide in his own parents, he turned to his mother’s pastor, sneaking in to speak with him privately after waiting for other church members to leave. The pastor offered him prayer points, scripture readings and a 21 day spiritual exercise meant to help him overcome the struggle.

Flavour admitted that despite his sincerity, he relapsed within days of starting the programme.

It was only after opening up to an older, more experienced member of his band, a Cameroonian bassist, that Flavour said he found the guidance that finally helped him move past the addiction for good.

He credited the conversation with turning his life around and said that since then, the habit that had troubled him for two years came to an end.
