The Federal Government has introduced the Government Service Portal, a digital platform designed to provide Nigerians with seamless access to multiple government services through a single, secure login.

The platform, unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja, is expected to eliminate the need for users to create separate accounts for different government agencies, making public services more accessible and efficient.

The portal was developed by Galaxy Backbone in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). It is one of the flagship initiatives under Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0.

Speaking at the unveiling, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Nadungu Gagare, represented by the Director of E-Government, Johnson Bareyi, said the platform was created to address the longstanding challenge of fragmented government services spread across multiple offices and digital platforms.

He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to using technology to improve governance and enhance service delivery by providing citizens with a single, convenient gateway for accessing public services.

According to Gagare, the portal is aligned with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, as well as Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure agenda, ensuring it functions as part of an integrated digital government ecosystem.

Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the platform tackles structural inefficiencies that have made it difficult for Nigerians to access government services over the years.

Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone, Olumbe Akinkugbe, disclosed that the portal underwent extensive user acceptance testing across the country’s six geopolitical zones before its rollout.

He said 184 participants took part in the exercise, with more than 80 per cent describing the platform as user-friendly and easy to navigate. He added that 88 per cent of participants were able to locate government services successfully, while 71 per cent rated the portal’s speed as fast or very fast.

Akinkugbe further stated that 91 per cent of the participants indicated they would use the platform, while 99 per cent said they would recommend it to others.

He explained that the portal will integrate with the Nigerian Digital Exchange to enable secure data sharing among authorised government institutions, reduce duplication across agencies and improve coordination within the public sector.

The launch comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen Nigeria’s digital governance framework. Earlier this month, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) warned that fragmented cybersecurity systems across ministries, departments and agencies could expose government networks to growing cyber threats, highlighting the need for a more coordinated digital infrastructure.

The development also follows recent moves by the Federal Government to harmonise regulations governing the digital economy. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, recently directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), NITDA and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to suspend enforcement of overlapping regulations affecting internet platforms and other digital economy stakeholders pending the outcome of a comprehensive policy review.

The minister said a joint committee has been established to engage stakeholders and develop recommendations for a harmonised national regulatory framework for the sector.
