Rural Electrification Agency, SAPZ Partner to Accelerate Agricultural Power Infrastructure, Economic Growth
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) program to deliver reliable off-grid power solutions aimed at boosting agro-industrial processing and enhancing the rural economy.
Under the partnership, the REA will deploy renewable energy installations—including solar mini-grids and clean energy infrastructure—to support agricultural value chains, power processing hubs, and improve productivity for farmers across participating states.
The collaboration seeks to reduce post-harvest losses, cut processing costs, and create sustainable employment opportunities by ensuring consistent electricity supply to rural agro-allied industries that previously lacked reliable grid connections.
Officials from both organizations emphasized that the strategic power agreement aligns with national economic diversification efforts, paving the way for increased food security, rural industrialization, and expanded private-sector investments in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
