Architects’ Institute Inducts Over 200 New Members, Stresses Building Standards
The Architects, Artisans and Construction Managers Institute of Nigeria has inducted more than 200 new members and artisans in Abuja.
The ceremony focused on strengthening professionalism and ensuring strict compliance with approved construction standards.
Speaking at the event on Saturday, AICON President Umar Garba described the induction as an important milestone in the careers of the new members. He urged them to uphold integrity, competence and excellence in their work rather than treating membership as mere recognition.
Garba called on the inductees to adopt modern construction methods, improve their technical skills and keep safety and quality at the centre of every project. He said the association would continue to promote capacity building and collaboration among practitioners to deliver safe and durable buildings.
Representatives of the Minister of Works and Housing and other dignitaries congratulated the new members. They advised them to prioritise quality and safety over short-term gains, warning that poor workmanship and disregard for standards could endanger lives and property.
The emphasis on professional standards comes against the background of recurring concerns over building failures and unsafe construction practices in the country. AICON said strengthening practitioners’ capacity and enforcing approved standards remain essential to restoring public confidence in the construction sector.
