Olamide Oladiji, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, is battling moves to impeach him over the alleged mismanagement of N44 million released by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission.

Reports suggest that about 21 out of 26 members have signed an impeachment notice against him.

The controversy centres on funds meant for reordering the OSOPADEC 2026 budget. Some lawmakers accuse the speaker of not carrying other members along in the handling of the money. This has created tension within the assembly in recent days.

Oladiji has dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated. In a statement, he described the reports as fabricated lies meant to cause disunity.

He insisted there is no leadership crisis in the assembly and that he never contemplated resigning.
One lawmaker, Olawumi Fayemi-Obayelu, alleged she received threats while investigating the matter. She called on the speaker to resign or face the consequences of his actions. The speaker denied knowledge of any such impeachment move.

The situation remains tense as members prepare for further discussions. The outcome could have major implications for leadership in the Ondo State House of Assembly. Many are watching to see how the crisis will be resolved.
