Oladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ogun State, has accused governors across Nigeria of diverting local government allocations.

He made the strong claim during a meeting with the Egba Traditional Council in Abeokuta while seeking their support for his 2027 ambition. According to him, the practice cuts across party lines and is no secret in the country.

Adebutu promised that granting full financial autonomy to local governments would be a top priority if elected. He said local councils performed better and delivered more development when they controlled their own money.

He also highlighted his clean record in public office, noting that he served twice in the National Assembly without embezzling funds.

The PDP candidate reflected on past times when local governments received their allocations directly. He argued that this led to visible progress and better inclusion of traditional rulers in governance. Adebutu positioned himself as someone ready to bring positive change and stunned the nation with bold reforms.

Beyond local government issues, he spoke on infrastructure and power. Adebutu pledged to avoid borrowing for roads and instead focus on smart financing.

He also promised heavy private sector involvement in electricity generation to boost businesses and create jobs, drawing from his personal donations of over 600 transformers to communities.

The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, welcomed Adebutu warmly. The monarch described him as trustworthy and reliable, publicly endorsing his candidacy. He recalled the strong legacy of Adebutu’s father, a well-known philanthropist, and expressed confidence in the son’s ability to serve the people.
