Oyo Firefighters Rescue Six-Month-Old Baby from Burning Building
Firefighters in Oyo State have successfully rescued a six-month-old baby from a burning building in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area.
The fire, which broke out on the ground floor of a private one-storey residential building at Olomi Compound, was caused by an unattended gas leak. The quick response of the fire service prevented the blaze from spreading to the upper floor and neighbouring properties.
The Oyo State Fire Service received a distress call from a resident named Abiodun Mayowa and immediately mobilised personnel to the scene. Led by PFS II Oluwaleye, the firefighting team arrived promptly and brought the situation under control.
The baby was safely rescued alive from the building during the operation.
After extinguishing the fire, the officers conducted a brief fire safety lecture for the occupants and sympathisers at the scene. They emphasised the importance of proper installation and regular maintenance of gas appliances to prevent similar incidents. The chairman of the Fire Services Reform, Morrof Akinwande, urged the public to install appropriate fire extinguishers in their homes and observe basic safety precautions.
The successful rescue has been praised by residents who witnessed the firefighters’ swift action. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of leaving gas appliances unattended and the need for constant vigilance in households.
Local authorities continue to encourage citizens to prioritise fire safety measures in their daily lives.
As the family of the rescued baby expresses gratitude to the fire service, the event has highlighted the importance of well-equipped emergency response teams. The Oyo State Fire Service remains committed to protecting lives and property through prompt and effective intervention in emergency situations across the state.
