Lagos Resident Claims Suspected Police Officers Extorted ₦700,000 in Ikorodu

A Lagos resident, identified as Osasi, has accused men who claimed to be police officers of abducting and extorting about ₦700,000 from him in Ikorodu, describing the ordeal as one of the most traumatic experiences of his life.

Osasi made the allegation in a post shared on his X account, @osasipicture, where he recounted that the incident occurred on Sunday after he visited a friend in Ikorodu to lend him a MacBook charger.

According to him, he was intercepted while driving home by men who introduced themselves as Nigerian police officers but were not dressed in standard police uniforms.

He alleged that the men forced him into his own vehicle, accused him of belonging to a cult group without presenting any evidence, and searched his mobile phone.

Osasi said the suspects threatened to kill him if he failed to cooperate and drove him to different locations, including Ketu, while continuing the intimidation.

Fearing for his life, he said he was compelled to open his banking applications and transfer money from his account.

He claimed that a total of about ₦700,000 was withdrawn through three separate transfers of ₦256,000, ₦256,000 and ₦206,000.

Transaction receipts shared by the victim showed that the first payment was sent from his Opay account to an Opay account belonging to Busola Opeyemi Olasore (account number 6142098846), while the second and third transfers were made to Moniepoint accounts belonging to Juliet-Chrisjunior Enterprises (8162951940) and Adejoke Ajewole (8159667125), respectively.

The resident further alleged that the men demanded an additional ₦5 million and forced him to contact friends in an attempt to raise more money.

He maintained that the transfers were made under duress because he believed his life was in danger.

Sharing a video related to the incident, Osasi said he decided to speak publicly to draw attention to the alleged abuse, insisting that no Nigerian should be subjected to such treatment.

He added that he had reported the matter to the appropriate authorities and financial institutions and expressed hope that those responsible would be identified and prosecuted.

He also appealed to members of the public to share his post to increase awareness.

Reacting to the allegation, the New Media Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Aliyu Giwa, directed the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Lagos State Police Command to investigate the incident.

The Lagos State Police Command has consistently advised residents to request proper identification from officers and report cases of extortion or other forms of misconduct to the CRU.
