Iyabo Ojo Explains Why Ex-Husband Featured at Daughter’s Wedding
Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo has explained why she made sure her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo, played a visible and prominent role at their daughter Priscilla’s wedding, saying she was determined not to let her personal history with him overshadow their child’s big day.
She addressed the topic during a recent appearance on The Morayo Show, reflecting on a decision that drew widespread attention throughout the star-studded wedding celebrations.
Iyabo Ojo married Ademidun Ojo in 1999 at just 21 years old, and the union produced two children, a son, Festus, and daughter, Priscilla, before the couple divorced in 2001, shortly after Priscilla’s birth.
The actress has previously attributed the marriage’s collapse to how young she was at the time and the pressures that came with early motherhood.
Asked by host Morayo Afolabi-Brown why she allowed her former husband such a prominent presence at the wedding despite their long separation, Ojo said she was guided by a deliberate decision to break generational patterns rather than repeat them. She explained that she grew up with her own parents separated and did not want her children inheriting the same story, describing it as breaking a kind of ancestral cycle that both African tradition and Christian belief warn against repeating. She said she chose to set aside her personal feelings and play her part so that Priscilla could thrive and find happiness in her own marriage, framing it as a price she was willing to pay for her daughter’s sake.
Ojo further stressed that regardless of how their marriage ended, Ademidun remains Priscilla’s father and deserved the chance to witness one of the most significant moments of his daughter’s life.
The comments come more than a year after Priscilla’s wedding to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, held across elaborate ceremonies in both Tanzania and Nigeria in 2025, which became one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of that year. The couple has since welcomed a son, and Ojo’s decision to bring her ex-husband and her partner, Paul Okoye, together under one roof at the event was widely praised at the time as a rare display of maturity in Nigerian celebrity circles.
