Moscow Airports Reopen After Air Defences Down 59 Ukrainian Drones

Russian authorities on Monday temporarily suspended operations at all four major airports in Moscow after air defence systems intercepted dozens of drones over the capital.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 59 drones were destroyed during the attack, though he did not state where they were launched from.

Aviation authorities said flights at the affected airports were halted as a safety measure but later resumed after the threat subsided.

The temporary closure affected Moscow’s major air hubs as officials moved to prevent possible risks to aircraft and passengers during the drone interception operation.

The development comes amid continued drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine, although neither side has officially claimed responsibility for the latest incident over Moscow.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian security source said on June 12 that Kyiv was seeking an additional $20 billion in military assistance from its European partners to boost its capacity in the war against Russia.
