Actor Charles Born Opens Up on Childhood Trauma, Credits Mother for Support

Nollywood actor, Charles Born has sparked reactions online after marking Father’s Day by expressing appreciation in a post that also reflected on his strained relationship with his father and the role his mother played in his upbringing.

In a post shared on Instagram on Sunday, the actor expressed gratitude and affection in a Father’s Day message, while also drawing attention to his personal family experiences.

The post has since renewed interest in an earlier interview in which Born spoke about his childhood and described it as emotionally and physically challenging.

In the interview on the programme Food Therapy, hosted by Chef Ify, the actor alleged that he experienced emotional neglect and physical abuse while growing up.

He recounted instances of verbal insults and physical punishment, claiming he was repeatedly told he would not succeed in life and was subjected to harsh disciplinary measures at home.

Born also described a distressing incident in which he said he contemplated harming himself during a moment of abuse, before being rescued by a neighbour who intervened after hearing commotion.

The actor, however, later clarified in a social media comment that he is currently in therapy, saying he has been healing for years and has forgiven his father despite the painful memories.

He assured fans that he is doing well emotionally and remains committed to his recovery process.

Following his Father’s Day post and resurfaced interview, social media users reacted with a mix of sympathy and encouragement, with many praising his mother for her role in raising him despite the challenges.

Some commenters also shared personal reflections and emotional responses, with several users expressing solidarity and discussing broader family and parenting struggles.

Born’s message and interview have continued to generate conversations online about childhood trauma, forgiveness and the impact of domestic abuse.
