Troops of the newly established 15 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have dismantled three suspected IPOB/ESN camps in Anambra State and recovered weapons, explosives and other items.

The operation took place in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The action was carried out around Osuakwa, along the boundary between Ihiala and Ogbaru Local Government Areas, following intelligence on the activities of suspected members. Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation Udo Ka, worked with personnel of the Department of State Services and members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group.

During the operation, the joint force came under fire but responded and overran the camps. Three suspected members were killed, while the camps were destroyed. Items recovered included one FN rifle with ammunition, a pump-action shotgun, 15 sticks of dynamite, four motorcycles, batteries and radio chargers.

Further searches in the area led to the arrest of a suspected member identified as Chijioke, along with a man and a woman believed to be accomplices. The three were found in the company of six children.

The Commander of 15 Brigade commended the troops and collaborating agencies for their efforts. The Army said the newly established brigade would continue intelligence-led operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure the safety of residents in Anambra and the wider South East.
