Fayemi Lauds Smooth Voting Process in Ekiti Election
Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has commended the conduct of the governorship election, describing the accreditation and voting process at his polling unit in Isan Ekiti as efficient and hitch-free.
Fayemi, who voted at Ogilolo Ward 11, Unit 9, Ogilolo, said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ensured a smooth exercise.
He said the accreditation process was quick and that he observed a similarly seamless experience when his wife voted at the same location.
The former governor noted that the technical aspect of the election appeared to have improved, adding that the process was better organised than what had been experienced in some previous elections.
Fayemi praised the INEC officials deployed for the exercise, saying their performance contributed to the orderly conduct of voting at the polling unit.
Similarly, former member of the National Assembly, Senator Ayo Arise, described the election at his polling unit in Oye Ekiti as peaceful, orderly and fast.
Arise, who spoke after casting his vote, however, said voter turnout in the area was moderate and fell below his expectations.
He said queues at his polling unit were shorter than those recorded during some past elections, although he noted that participation was neither extremely poor nor particularly impressive.
Despite the turnout, Arise expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress, APC, would win the election, maintaining that the party had no formidable opposition in the contest.
He said the party was hopeful of securing as many as 500,000 votes, describing the target as an aspiration rather than a benchmark for judging its performance.
Arise added that failure to reach the figure would not amount to a setback for the party, but would instead underscore the need for greater efforts to encourage voter participation in future elections.
