Saudi Relief Agency, NEMA Distribute Aid to 6,000 Disaster Victims in Yobe

No fewer than 6,000 households affected by floods and other humanitarian challenges in Yobe State have received food items and relief materials through a joint intervention by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Yobe State Government.

The Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, announced this on Thursday during the official launch of the distribution exercise in Damaturu, the state capital.

Umar explained that the initiative is designed to provide assistance to vulnerable communities impacted by disasters while enhancing emergency response efforts across affected areas.

She disclosed that KSrelief donated 24,302 food baskets for distribution to vulnerable households in five states—Yobe, Benue, Anambra, Kebbi and Taraba.

According to her, the current phase of the programme in Yobe targets 6,000 carefully profiled households identified as most in need of support.

The NEMA boss noted that previous interventions by the Saudi humanitarian agency had offered vital assistance to internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups affected by insurgency and related humanitarian crises.

She urged all agencies involved in the distribution process to maintain transparency, fairness and accountability to ensure that the relief materials reach the intended beneficiaries.

“The distribution exercise should be conducted in accordance with the accountability and operational standards expected by KSrelief and NEMA to guarantee effective delivery to those targeted,” she said.

Speaking at the event, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, described the intervention as timely and significant.

He said the initiative reflected international solidarity with communities facing hardship due to disasters and other vulnerabilities, adding that it complements government efforts aimed at improving the welfare and resilience of affected residents.

Goje expressed appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, KSrelief and NEMA for their support and assured that the state government would oversee a transparent and equitable distribution of the relief materials to deserving beneficiaries.
