The Edo State Police Command have achieved a major success in the fight against kidnapping. Operatives killed one suspected kidnapper and arrested his accomplice during an operation in Benin City. This swift action followed the abduction of a woman at the Vegetable Market on June 14, 2026.
The State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, announced the development while parading the arrested suspect at the command headquarters. The arrested suspect, identified as 32-year-old Marvelous Issac, was linked to the kidnapping syndicate. During the operation, another suspect known as Precious was killed in a gun battle with police.
Security forces recovered a red Lexus RX 350 vehicle with registration number EKP 848 AE, which was allegedly used in the crime. They also found a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, N2.25 million suspected to be ransom money, and a motorcycle. The arrested suspect has confessed to the police about their involvement in the kidnapping.
Governor Monday Okpebholo praised the police for their quick response, noting that the suspects were caught within 24 hours. He reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to ending kidnapping and cult-related crimes in the state. The governor also announced plans to establish a special court for speedy trials of kidnappers and warned that he would sign death warrants for convicted offenders.
This operation has brought relief to residents of Benin City and shows the determination of security agencies to tackle crime. Investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who are still at large. Many hope this success will discourage criminals and make Edo State safer for everyone.
